La fonction principale de notre cerveau, observait Laborit (1976), n’est pas de penser mais d’agir et de rechercher la stabilité interne de son organisation. Le paradoxe du cerveau concernant l’apprentissage, compris comme une transformation structurelle, c’est qu’il recherche cette stabilité alors même qu’il est la condition de l’émergence du nouveau grâce à sa plasticité (Varela). Il s’agit bien, pour a-prendre, de résister à la fixité…, d’accepter de perdre, de réviser ses croyances, ses routines. Cet équilibre entre la stabilité et l’instabilité est bien la marque de l’apprenance. C’est la posture de l’équilibre instable, qui est la condition de l’engagement dans le développement de soi.
